Look at Time and Place – Take Action Now

It is magnificent to take action now while recognizing opportunity has a time and place.

It is magnificent to take action now while recognizing opportunity has a time and place.

The idea behind take action now is that one starts doing something right now to accomplish a mission rather than waiting for some unknown date in the future. When you take action now, you seize the day and to put it simply, just do what you are supposed to do. It is important to take action now when action is required. There is a time and a place for everything and when action is not taken at the right time, there is a cost to be paid.

In economics, there is a principle called opportunity costs. The opportunity cost is the value of a choice not taken in a situation where one must make a choice because all options cannot be taken at the same time. That is why it is so important to take action now. If you do not take action now when you should, it costs you that opportunity. Think of it like connecting airplanes. What if you are on your way to New Orleans, Louisiana from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Suppose there is an accident on the way to the airport and you are stuck in traffic for two hours. Or what if you stop off to eat at a restaurant and are delayed an hour or so. In either of these cases, you will miss the opportunity to catch your flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta. If you miss your plane from Philadelphia to Atlanta, you will not be in a position to catch the connecting flight from Atlanta to New Orleans. In this case, the opportunity to travel to the airport or to eat out cost you the ability to get to your destination in a timely manner.

Timing is crucial. In real estate, the mantra is, “Location, location, location.” In life, the mantra should be, “timing, timing, timing.” Timing matters. Timing is the difference between success and failure. To be on time is to arrive at least 15 minutes early. To arrive at the starting time is to be late. To be late is unacceptable. Timing matters. You must learn to take action now because all life depends on doing the right things at the right time. The time to fire an employee is when you first learn she is stealing, not when she has been stealing for 6 months. If you allow an employee to continue to work for you after you discover she is a thief, it costs you the opportunity to hire, train and retain a good employee. The time to prepare for battle is the time of peace. In all you do, take action now plays a crucial role. Nothing gets done until action is taken. If you wait until the war starts to prepare for war, it costs you the opportunity to gather supplies, muster the troops and to prepare a smart plan for battle. If you fail to take action now when action is needed, there is an opportunity cost that is paid.

Do not be afraid to take action now. Do not fret over the things your failure to take action now has cost you in the past. Instead, just take action now and do what needs to be done. Opportunity cost is real. Sometimes it shows up as dollars lost. Other times opportunity cost shows up as stress and aggravation. Another way opportunity cost shows up is in the choices you no longer have the privilege of making. Opportunity has a cost, a real cost and the best way to get the most bang for your opportunity costs is to take action now when it is time to get things done.

In conclusion, it is magnificent to take action now while recognizing opportunity has a time and place. So, the question for you this magnificent day is, do you take action now or do you let the opportunity pass you by?
