It is thrilling to take the time to do some spring cleaning at your business. Often when people think of spring cleaning they think if someone going around the house with yellow Playtex gloves, Clorox bleach and a scrub brush going through the house on a mission. If you own a business, any kind of business, spring is  great time for some back office housekeeping. Perhaps you are wondering how or where to spring clean at your business. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Business Plan
  2. Customer Service Plan
  3. Continuing Education

Business Plan

Of course you are operating your business with a written business plan, right? If not, take the time now to prepare a written business plan. A business plan is a guide to how your business will be running on a day to day basis. If for some reason you had to step away from your business due to an emergency situation, the written business plan provides the instructions needed to keep things running smoothly in your absence. Additionally, a written business plan causes you to think about, figure out and plan, marketing, sales, employee matters and all other business operations. Use the spring cleaning season to get your business plan in order.

Customer Service Plan

Customers make your business go around! It doesn’t matter if you are a doctor and call your customers patients,  a librarian who calls your customers patrons or a blogger who calls your customers readers. Your customers are important to your business and you need a good customer service plan to keep them happy. Take time to find out why your customers choose your business over other businesses. Keep in mind that if you take care of your customers, they will be around to take care of you! Use the spring cleaning season to review your customer service plan and make sure it is in proper working order.

No matter what your business type, there is always a course, class or book that will give new information, new ideas or trigger a thought on how you can run your business better. It is important to realize that just as sales people should always be closing, entrepreneurs should always be learning.  Use the spring cleaning season to find new sources of continuing education so you can up your game as a business owner.
