rule your technology, don't let it make you procrastinate www.janeanesworld.com

It is terrific to know you can stop procrastination by refusing to be ruled by your technology.

Procrastination is the thing that keeps you from doing what you need to do or gives you an excuse for not doing what you should be doing. One common thing that causes procrastination is technology. Of course, technology is all around us and is something we cannot, indeed should not avoid. At the same time, technology is a major source of procrastination.

The following are a few of the common procrastination problems associated with technology:
1.  Technology causes one to get sucked into social media
2.  Technology with dead battery on things like phone, tablet or laptop
3.  Technology dies with no cloud backup
4.  Technology is used improperly
5.   Technology scares the user

Each of these things will cause a person to procrastinate rather than doing what should be done.  While each of the things on this list is a nightmare and will cause a person to procrastinate. It is a common line of thought that one should prepare for war in the time of peace. With that idea in mind, these technology horrors should be prepared for in advance so that they don’t cause you to succumb to procrastination.

1. Technology causes one to get sucked into social media
One thing that many people love about technology is access to social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn. These sites are great fun and a real in many ways. If you are a person who finds you get on your devices and get lost on social networks, there are several things you can do to stop its procrastination challenges. First set time limits with an actual audible alarm on your device. Determine how long you should spend on social networking, set an alarm and when the alarm goes off, you must get off the social networking.
2. Technology with dead battery on things like phone, tablet or laptop
Often people do not do the work they should be doing because they are afraid the battery will die. This is another easy thing to fix. Be sure to keep all your devices fully charged if you use them outside of the home or the office. Make charging your devices part of your everyday routine. If you carry a smartphone or tablet device with you, invest in a portable charger. These incredible devices provide the power necessary to recharge a dead device in a matter of moments or provide power for your device for hours while plugged into the recharging source.

3.  Technology dies with no cloud backup
This is another area where advance preparation can help you not to procrastinate later. There are dozens upon dozens of cloud-based storage programs available. Select the one that best suits your personality and work style and go with it. Whichever cloud-based storage program you use, make sure it saves your work on your device (phone, tablet or laptop) and in the cloud at the same time. This is important because it means if one piece of technology or all of them die, you can immediately pick up and continue working with another piece of technology.
4.  Technology is used improperly
When technology is not properly used it leads to procrastination. This is another area where it is easy to beat back procrastination. Read the manual when you get some new technology. It is tempting to pull technology out of the box and just start playing. Everyone has done it and it is fun. However, if you want to get the most out of your technology, get the manual out of the box or online and read it. Read the manual a few times.  In addition, be sure to use the right piece of technology for the job. If you are doing a lot of typing for example, a traditional laptop will be better than a smartphone. At the same time, if you are using Twitter or Instagram at an event, the smartphone is the best choice.
5.   Technology scares the user
If you are scared of your technology and that causes you to procrastinate, suck it up! We are not yet at a point when technology can do what it wants without our assistance. This means you are in charge of your technology. The best way to stop being afraid of your technology is to pick it up and use it. Use your technology early and often so that you get comfortable with it and can get it to do what you want it to do.
