One way to do that is with the popular 52 Week Savings Plan. A common savings plan making the rounds is the 52 week savings plan that requires participants to save one dollar for each week of the year. This that on the first week of the year, one dollar is saved and on the fifty-second week of the year, fifty-two dollar are saved. Over the course of the year, more than $1,350 is saved. This is a nice start to the $10,000 you need to purchase your house. The important thing is that this plan starts you saving. It is a way to make savings a regular part of your life. If you save each week of the year you establish a habit of savings and the character of a person who can defer satisfaction in order to reach a goal.
Do not laugh at the small amounts saved with this plan. A few years ago a group of writers in a social media group I belong to wanted to participate in this challenge. They were all excited about being able to save more than $1,300 over the course of a year. The excitement wavered and was dampened by a few well-to-do members of the group who laughed and said this plan was a nice way to save for shoe money, but not for any real goal. Those well to do women were so wrong! If you are a person who has very limited funds, start the plan at $1.00 for the first week and continue from there. If you are more well-to-do start at $100.00 for the first week and continue from there. If you are somewhere in the middle, start there.
The key with plans like this one is not what you start with, the key is that you actually start. That big dream you have is within your reach, don’t be discouraged if it takes you many steps to get there. Just move and keep moving. You will get there. Never make light of small starts, big things come from small starts. The church girl in me is obligated to tell you that the Bible says, faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains!
You can find serenity in realizing that big dreams can come from small starts like the 52 Week Saving Plan. So, the question for you this serene day is, what big dream are you going to take small steps towards achieving today?
