Learning to Prioritize, Maya Angelou and 3 Lessons for Entrepreneurs

Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option Maya Angelou

“Never make someone a priority when all you are to them is an option.” Maya Angelou This quote has 3 lessons for entrepreneurs. These lessons are:

  • Take control of your destiny
  • Prioritize relationships
  • Know your place in the universe

Take control of your destiny

It is important to remember that your life belongs to you. There is one person who should be in control of your life and destiny. That person is you, period. All too often we give other people control of our lives – spouses, children, co-workers, and others. Even though we have obligations to others that cannot be ignored, we must control our own lives.

Prioritize relationships

All relationships are not equal. In order to be happy and successful in life, we must learn to prioritize relationships. Not everyone is entitled to equal time and access in your life. Some people deserve 8 hours a day of your time and attention. Other people deserve no more than one hour per month. You must learn to give each relationship in your life its proper priority. Failure to properly prioritize leads to stress, dissatisfaction, and being over-burdened.

Know your place in the universe

Each person has a place in the universe. Each person has a place where she belongs, where she can be most at ease and most comfortable. When you know what that place is for you, it enables you to move from place to place and situation to situation with ease and comfort.
