Be Grateful for the Job Search

Stop being scared to look for a new job!

One of the first things you need to do when you are looking for a new job is to either stop being scared or learn to push ahead even if you are scared. Fear is real. Nothing can be gained from pretending that it is not. You can not ignore fear and hope it will go away. You can decide that you are no longer afraid. It is a matter of how much control you have over your emotions. Some people can rustle up the mental fortitude to decide they will no longer be afraid of a thing If you have that kind of mental strength, use it to decide you will stop being afraid of looking for a new job. If you do not have that kind of strength, do not be dismayed. Instead say to yourself, “I am scared about this job search, but I am going to push forward anyway.” Literally, say the words. Stand up tall, put a hand on your hip, stick your chest out and say with a strong, proud voice, “I am scared about this job search, but I am going to push forward anyway.” Each time some element of the job search scares you, makes you nervous, or makes you want to stop looking for a new job, repeat these words.

If you need a new job and are desperate for a new chance, start with your attitude.

Words have power. That is the reason people say, “the pen is mightier than the sword.” Your words have strength and power. The more you repeat these words to yourself, the stronger you will feel and the stronger you will become. In the beginning, you may have to repeat these words to yourself several times an hour. Repeat them each time fear and doubt raise their ugly heads. In addition, think about making the words part of the screen saver on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. You look at those devices all day long. A reminder there will help you to remember to push forward. This stuff works. Below, check out the photo I have as the wallpaper on my computer and the wallpaper on my smartphone. I need to stop dreaming and start doing several projects in my life. These photos on my devices remind me all day long that I need get moving on those projects if I want success.

Looking for a new job may be scary and stressful, but look at it as a reason to be thankful. New jobs are opportunities to do new and exciting things, that makes them a cause for celebration.

words have power

The job search may be scary. Becoming the person you want to be after you have been a person you no longer want to be is scary. But, you can do it. You can start fresh and be the person you want to be.

It is wonderful to realize that the job interview provides a chance to dress up and get out of the house. There comes a time in the life of most people where they must go out and search for a job. It is common to all who work from the 9 to 5 office worker to the chief executive officer if a major company to the WAHM (work at home mother). It is a social custom here in the United States that one dresses up in one’s better clothing when going on a job interview. Often people who are between jobs spend the day in pajamas or super comfy casual clothes. This type of clothing tends to make one feel relaxed and less than serious. In contrast, interview clothes make us feel successful, accomplished and serious. In addition, the interview is a chance to interact with adults, which is a welcome treat if you are used to going to work each day and have been home alone for a while.

In a dream world, I would be able to work as a consultant from 10 to 2 each day with two clients who each paid me $1,000,000 per year and would have the remainder of the day to devote to writing, and taking care of my family. Today I do not have that dream job. I typically work from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and then from 9 pm to 1 am. I have several consulting clients who pay me far less than $1,000,000 a year and I scramble to find time for writing and taking care of my family. This is reality; the world in which I live. I have a choice, I can complain and be sad that I am not living the dream or I can do the best job possible with what I have and prepare to handle the dream job situation when it arrives. I have chosen to live the life I have and be happy about it all as I prepare for my dream future.
