Stop Procrastination – Motivate Yourself

It is terrific to know that you can motivate yourself to stop procrastination.

Everyone knows what procrastination means. After all, almost every schoolchild has been taught not to put off until tomorrow things that can be done today. In addition, almost everyone has procrastinated at least once in life. For some people, procrastination is debilitating and people who suffer from it feel overwhelmed and almost hopeless. Those people should stand strong and be encouraged.
Almost every person can win the battle against procrastination. The reason almost every person can win the battle against procrastination is that a great weapon is to motivate one’s self. Sometimes, there is no one around to pat you on the back when you have done a great job. At those times you must pat yourself on the back. Similarly, sometimes when you have been procrastinating and no one has been able to help you stop, you must motivate yourself. Friends and family members get busy. Self-help books get lost. Smartphones get lost or have batteries that die. The one thing you can guarantee you will always have with you and will always be available is your own self.
In the end, each person is responsible for what she does or does not do. Since you are ultimately responsible for yourself and the outcomes you are able to achieve, you must find a way to motivate yourself to work rather than procrastinate. It may be hard to find something that motivates you to get up and move, but you must find it. The following are some popular motivating factors that help people win the battle against procrastination:
  • self-pride
  • competition with others
  • desire to achieve a certain goal
  • to show up others
  • need for income
  • status as a role model for others
  • to quiet nagging family members
  • recognition of the  necessity of doing a thing
  • imminent deadlines
If one of the items listed here will motivate you to get up and do what needs to be done rather than falling victim to procrastination, use it. If none of these things motivates you to move, sit down now, yes, right now and make a list of things that motivate you to perform. If you are a pen and paper person, write the list down and keep copies in your office, wallet, even attach it to the refrigerator. If you are a technology lover, put the list in your smartphone and sync it on your tablet and laptop. It doesn’t matter where you keep the list. Just keep that list in a safe place so that when procrastination attacks, you can pull out your motivation list and take action now to stop procrastination in its tracks.
You have it within you to win the battle against procrastination. It may be a battle you fight each day, but that is okay. You can fight it each day and win it each day. Prepare for tomorrow’s procrastination battle today by checking your motivation list and examining what on that list will help you move forward tomorrow. Be mindful of the fact that what motivates you one day may not do the trick the next day. This is a reason why it is important to review your motivation list each day and be sure to keep it up-to-date.
In conclusion, it is terrific to know that you can motivate yourself to stop procrastination. So, the question for you this terrific day is, how are you going to motivate yourself to stop procrastination in its tracks?
