It is magnificent to take action now and really live your dream. January of each year is full of talk about dreams. Between the start of the new year and the Martin Luther King holiday, there seems to be talk of nothing but dreams. In a way, this is a good thing. In another way, it is sad. The reason for the sadness is that a dream has almost no worth if a person does not take action to make the dream come true.
When you have a dream it is important to work, to do something to make the dream come true. Faith without work is dead and no one wants to be the owner of a dead dream. At the same time, when you take action on your dream, make sure the action is real and that you are not sabotaging your dream without realizing it. For example, recently I was speaking with a group of entrepreneurs about going from dreams to reality. The discussion revolved around the idea of writing checks for some dream amount the entrepreneur would earn in the future. The filled-in checks were to be placed where the could be seen each day. This visual cue was thought to be a source of motivation.
Someone asked if they should use a real check or a pretend check from the internet. My thought was, a real check of course. After all, fake checks are like fake money in a Monopoly game. The fake stuff may be fun to play with, but it will never motivate me like real money. I wrote out a few checks, using my real checks from my real bank account. I carry the checks in my eReader so that I can see them each day and be reminded that I need to keep my mind on my mission and my mission on my mind.

It is magnificent to know you really can take action now and follow a dream. Some people have beautiful china closets full of gorgeous, precious dishes that look at, dust and admire, but never use. I look at those people with amazement. Often many hours were devoted to finding just the right china pattern, picking out the perfect china closet and to arranging the dishes on the beautiful shelves. The china was put on the shelves to be admired and never used. There are other people who also have beautiful china closets full of gorgeous, precious china dishes that come out of the china closet and make it to the dining room table a couple of times each year.
It is terrific to realize that you can control the naysayers in your life by telling them to shut up! In all my roles including: wife, mother, advisor ad writer I am always a cheerleader. Anyone who has a dream can always count on me to push them toward their dreams and to believe they can reach the stars. It costs me nothing to believe in the power of another person’s dreams. In fact I gain when I believe in someone else’s dreams and help them achieve. The person who gets the benefit of my pushing and cheerleading gains support and an accountability partner. It is an easy win-win for us both.
It is magnificent to take action now and realize it is your dream and you can make it happen. One of my favorite and best things to do is TAN. What is TAN? TAN means to Take Action Now, to start doing what needs to be done. When you take action now you leave the world of “what if” and enter the world of “yes, I am doing this.” The world is full of reasons to sit back and wait, to put off until tomorrow. That is afact everyone seems to know very well. The world is full of excuses. You know, the excuses that keep you from accomplishing your dreams:
