Unemployed? Time to Make Family Stronger and Better

10 Ways to Do Something Special for Your Family

If you are out of work, take time to do special things with your family. What you do is not as important as the fact that you do in fact do things with and for your family. Check out the following list of things you can do while out of work:

– volunteer at your children’s school
– make breakfast for the family each morning
– create a family game night
– participate in religious activities with the family
– watch television as a family
– play video games with the children
– go for walks around the neighborhood
– talk with the family
– have good conversations with your family around the dinner table
– spend time taking family photos to capture every day activities to save for later

None of these activities are  world-changing or earth shattering. However, these activities are the kinds of things that happy families do together. These are the kinds of activities that create memories that family members laugh about and tease each other about for years to come. In addition, when your period of unemployment is over and you are back at work long hours each day, these activities will give you good memories that will help you to make it through some of the tough days.

It is a wonderful thing to take action now to make family relationships stronger and better when you are between jobs. What do you do to make things better for your family.

Solving The Happy Family Mystery: The Grass Isn’t Always Greener

You can find serenity in knowing, when it comes to families, the grass is not always greener on the other side. Often when I am out and about with my children, complete strangers will walk up to me and tell me how well-behaved my children are, how mannerly they are or how lucky I am to have them. I always smile and say thank you. I smile because it is nice to be told that my children are behaving within acceptable societal norms. I smile because the words are a compliment to the work I am doing as a mother. And sometimes, just sometimes, I smile because I know all the chaos at home that lead to the beautiful moment the person complimenting my children is now enjoying.

  • This is great advice. I can imagine it would be hard being unemployed but you still have to make the best of it and not neglect family because of it.

  • Awesome advice. It is definitely hard to be out of work. It's very stressful. I've been there, and it was not a lot of fun. The only great thing about it was I got to spend more time with my family. It's like taking a mini vacation. lol

  • Sometimes working actually makes things worse because you have no time to spend with family. It's why I've now dedicated my life to being a SAHM.

  • We try to make time with the family every day. The kids crave that attention and I think we as parents are better off when we give them the time they need.

  • As a freelancer, I feel like I"m unemployed every time I finish a job and it causes a lot of stress. I know my family feels it, too. I'm working on becoming a more balanced, well-rounded mom...it's a challenge, for sure!

  • I quite my job almost 10 years ago when our 1st son was born to stay home with our kids. I feel inadequate at times because my husband goes to work everyday.

  • Thank you for this post. Sometimes I feel like I don't do enough as a work at home mom and I fele better now.

  • As someone who went through a time with no job, it can be so very emotionally trying. I love the positive spin and wish I had more strength when I went through it.

  • Great advice! Unemployment doesn't have to mean being depressed or feeling sorry for yourself. It's great to put the time to good use!

  • I have been unemployed before, and it can be hard. I think spending time working on your family is a wonderful idea.
