You Are Out of Work So Start Something New

Smiling African American woman and the words "You Are Out of Work So Start Something New"

If you are unexpectedly out of work, be encouraged it may be an opportunity to try something new. Think about classes, hobbies, and personal improvement projects you would like to start.

It is wonderful to start something new when you are out of work. Previously I have written about dealing with what you should do if you find yourself out of work unexpectedly. In previous weeks, I wrote about adjusting your budget once you and your employment are separated and using your social network in the job search. Today is all about starting something new.

If you have always wanted to start a business, go into a different field, get some more education in an area, this is the perfect time to do it!  When you are out of work, you now have time to explore options and try new things. I am not advising that you skip looking for new employment and instead try a new venture. That is a personal choice that varies based on your individual situation.

I am instead advising that you have time to do some extra exploration into some dream projects. We can always find ways to make more money. What we are not able to create is more time. No matter what we do, we still only have 24 hours in each day and 7 days in each week.

When you find yourself unexpectedly out of work, you have a golden gift of time.  You can use to help some of your dreams come true.  Many projects that we dream of taking that most precious resource, our time.

Now that you are unemployed take the time to work on your dream.  So, the question for you this wonderful day is, what have you been putting on the back burner that you can devote more time to now that you are out of work?

  4. It helps to know what options are available to us if we do find ourselves out of work. Exploring our dreams is a lovely idea if we have the means to.

  5. It’s important to explore one’s options and purse different interests. Just because one no longer works for a company doesn’t mean it has to be the end.

  6. I have always wanted to try something new and start making my own stickers. It`s just the fear that creeps in every time we start something big or scary

  7. This is some great advice. If you are out of work, try something else! It could be what you are meant to do!

  8. I love how you’ve turned being out of work into a great moment! Since there’s nothing taking your time, the possibilities are endless with what you do with your future. (Of course, with your wise tip of getting on a budget in the meantime!)

  9. Love this word of wisdom! Sometimes God will allow job loss to happen not so that you can go right back out and get another job, but so that you can have and take the time to do what He created you to do. Thanks for sharing!

  10. I like the idea of making a list now and having it. It is like I tell my children, ” You don’t get ready, you stay ready.”

  11. Perhaps I should be making a list of things I want try or hoe I can reinvent myself with what I do know now…just in case 🙂 I like this positive outlook!

  12. Agreed. Being without work doesn’t have to be the end. It’s the perfect time to do what you are really passionate about or go to school and learn something new. The possibilities are limitless!
